Week 34

I have now made it to 34 weeks.  I only have 6 more weeks until my due date.  Baby girl is now over 4 pounds, about the size of a butternut squash.  She can now open and close her eyes, and research has shown that her pupils will constrict when exposed to bright lights.  Fingernails and toenails are well-formed and may grow up from the nail bed to reach the tip of the fingers and toes.    Right now baby girl is still breech, so here is to hoping she turns soon.

Maternity Photos

Last week while I was in St. George my awesome friend Shelbe took some maternity photos for me.  Here are just a few of my favorite ones.

Week 33

I am now 33 weeks into my pregnancy.  Only 7 more weeks till I am full term.  Baby girl now weighs about 4 pounds, the size of a durian fruit, she should gain approximately 1/2 pound per week until birth.  The umbilical cord is supplying her with immune proteins called antibodies that will help fight infections after birth.  She now keeps her eyes open when she is awake (which seems to happen a awful lot when I am trying to sleep).  She is also starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing.

Week 32

Last week I was 32 weeks but because I was in St. George I was not able to post.  Baby girl was about 3 3/4 pounds, about the size of a squash.  As her circulation continues to improve and she gains more fat, she can regulate body temperature better and may start to shed the fine layer of hair called lanugo.  More hair is growing on the top of her head and due to increased pigmentation it now has some color.

Week 31

31 weeks, only 9 weeks to go.  Baby girl now weighs about 3 pounds.  Her brain is now more fully developed, with speech and language centers in the process of development.  She is starting to flip upside down, rotate and even turn her head from side-to-side.  All 5 of her senses are now working.

Week 30

Oh yea! I have now made it 30 weeks, only 10 more weeks to go.  I am still loving salty stuff like the salty gummy worms, but no chocolate.  Baby girl now weighs just under 3 pounds.  She can now open, close and blink her eyes.  Her vision is still poor, and will remain so for a few months after birth.  Brain monitoring studies indicate that that she may be dreaming as she sleeps.  She is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

Week 29

Yea I have made it 29 weeks in my pregnancy.  Baby girl is now about 2 3/4 pounds and nearly 15 inches long.  She is the size of an acorn squash.  Her bones are beginning to harden and store iron, phosphorus and calcium. The bones will stay soft enough to accommodate the tight birth canal.  She doesn't spend a lot of time kicking but she rolls around all the time.
